Registration of foreign car in Ireland

My brother was thinking of getting me a car form the UK and I am just wondering if there will be difficulty or too pricey to register it here in Ireland. Any advice will be appreciated.

go to www.revenue.ie to get the rate of VRT you will pay
bear in mind these rates are due to change in July
Its a fairly straight forward procedure reregistering

One example:
2005 Peugeot 206 Zest 2 3dr hatchback 1.1 20,000 miles for GBP 5,000 (EUR 6,250 @ 1.25). Using revenue's linked calculator, you would only save EUR 929.

EUR 9263 less vrt of 2084 = 7179
7179 - 6250 = 929
A saving of EUR 929 here doesn't seem great.

Of course, I am assuming that you would buy in Ireland at EUR 9,263.

Low end of the market I know, but have a look at http://www.autotrader.co.uk/ along with above, and you can cost whatever import you want.

Of course, you also have the cost of Irish Ferries, Ryanair etc.
