I am self-employed I also worked in a part time Job for the last 7 years I recently was made redundant last October at that time I was very busy in my own work so I did not apply for any social welfare payments but now i finding things are slow so i decided to apply for Jobseeker's Allowance to see could i sign for the days that i am not working. But I was refused because my main income for the last 7 years was not from my part time job. is there anything I can do??

I would get a second opinion to be honest. I can't understand the reason they gave you because when you are employed either part-time/full-time you and your employer pay prsi which part of it goes towards unemployment benefit. It seems unfair not to benefit now when you need it. If it were me I would ask if I could make an appointment with a supervisor to go through the reasons given. Don't just give up.

I have no letter from them yet I was called to see the Inspector and he told me that because it was not my main income that I will be refused, he then went on to tell me I can appeal the decision but i cannot do this until I get an official letter informing me of their decision.

wait unitl you get the written official reason. Are we talking about a means test decision (JA) or a JB decision. Need more facts

They have told me that i have enough PRSI Contributions to qualify for JB. When I get the letter I will post the details.

Your title is misleading. Jobseekers Allowance is a means-tested payment.
Jobseekers Benefit is not means-tested and is based or PRSI paid.

Are you sure there is no confusion here as they may have told you that you are not entitled to JA (due to the means-test) but may be entitled to Part JB for the days you are available for work.

Sorry about that, it is Jobseekers Benefit I am applying for

SWIs have no authority to make such decisions unilaterally.
