Refuse collection in Dublin - who offers best value?

We are currently with Panda.

Since there are only two of us and we are careful about refuse - we double-bag everything - we put out our black bin about once every month to five weeks. i.e. only when it's full.

The brown bin and the green bin are put out every two weeks.

We are paying about a euro a day for this - about €350-400 per annum.

I've just received a bill from them which includes a "service charge" of €100.

Is our annual cost typical?

Which are the best comparison sites for refuse collection?

My experience with City Bin is good. Bins collected on time and carefully replaced. Notification via app. Never any issues with billing.

My experience with Greyhound (a decade ago) was terrible. Missed collections and overbilling.

Seems a lot.

I put out a 30kg black bin every fortnight and pay €250 a year (Dublin).
 
I would say we are paying the same, if not more. Competition came in the area this year but the comments on the company were dreadful so while I initially intended to move, I haven't.

€400 a year is a lot.

All the main providers do fixed price packages. In my Dublin area, Panda offer unlimited brown and green bins and 32 kilo a month black bin allowance for a fixed price of €20.50 a month that's €246 a year. Greyhound have something similar.

In this house, green and brown go out twice a month and the black probably has 20 kilos in it once a month. Pay by lift or weight would work out a lot more expensive than the fixed price package.
 
We are on the 'fixed' rate of 246 with Panda. I got fed up with working out when the bin was full enough to put out and incur a 'lift' charge. We probably did better on the old 'pay by use' set up but there was little inthe difference.
 
Just switched to a cheaper account costing €20.50 per month. There is a customer limit of 32Kgs (black bin) per month which more than covers the 15Kgs we're averaging.

Also, €95 of the €100 "service charge" I paid this morning was credited back to me. So, we won't pay our first €20.50 until June.

I didn't switch. I spoke to Panda's loyalty people and they offered me that tariff. That's why I was refunded €95 of the €100 I paid this morning.

I also contacted them. I was asked if I had received an offer from a competitor which I had. And they matched it at €9 per month.
 
I contacted Panda today. Said I was going to move to City Bin for €17.40 a month. Panda offered me a 2 year contract; €14pm for 1st year, €17pm for second year. Black bin monthly weight allowance of 50kg, and unlimited weight on brown & green bin.
Also the service charge I paid in Nov will be partially refunded, so now €100 credit also !
And I requested another green bin free of charge ! As our green bin is always over flowing. No extra charge to empty the second green bin.

I was on a pay per lift price plan with Panda . Didn’t know they did monthly plans . I rang them this morning and was offered €18.50 per month which saves me about €150 per year . Thanks all
 
Steeling myself up to make an actual phone call...worth a few mins of my time for 150 EUR! It's the one utility I don't pay attention to!
 
Anytime I make these calls and there is a wait to speak to an agent, I put the phone on speaker and carry on with whatever I am doing. Even a long delay is not usually a problem.
 
You might want to wait 8 am tomorrow morning, I was with them 1h13 on Monday. The call was so long that I checked the length. But I saved at least €250... So totally worth it. As there was up to now no competition in the area, I hadn't really checked their price recently. I know I checked the monthly schemes when they were implemented. At the time, there were no major difference for us. However I noticed that we paid much more in 2024 than 2023 (at least 50/70 per cent more each month). When I checked panda's website, I found that I needed to be log out of my account to access their different rates.
