I am due to be made redundant this coming friday which is a shock considering i have only been told yesterday. Only being offered Statitory redundancy sum approx 6k

I am wondering if anyone could provide details of the Back to Education Allowance - and would it be applicable in my case to mabey attend an upcoming course at third level this september.

Or is there a qualifing period (lenght of time) you have to be on dole b4 you would qualify for the BEA Allowance.

any help appreciated, the above has come as a shock to me and i dont know what to do

tks

Sorry to hear of your bad news, but there is no time to dwell on it. Be practical and perhaps this the time for a change of direction.

First thing on Monday morning, down to SW with PPS, ID, and proof of address (utility bill) to apply for JB.
Download the application form from welfare.ie and bring the completed form also.

Check out your place on your chosen course and get that established.

Apply for Back to Ed. allowance.
You may be eligible for BTEA for Sept. as you have been made redundant and have (I presume) an entitlement to JB. The waiting period is reduced in that case.

Check out higher education grants with you local VEC or County Council as you may be eligible due to the lower income level in 2009

I'm off topic but don't forget that you are legally entitled to a specific period of notice depending on your lenght of service, or else payment in lieu of notice.

Hi you have to be unemployed for 6 months. Make an appointment with FAS and ask your Social Welfare office for an appointment with the education officer. You can also only do a certain number of courses a year e.g. ECDL. Best of luck with retraining.

If you have been awarded Statutory redundancy and have established an entitlement to JB you do not have to wait for 6 months to qualify.
