Redundant due to bankruptcy

my wife is working for someone who is self-employed. She has recently come across information which leads her to believe he is about to declare himself bankrupt and then move abroad. she has worked for him for the last 7 years (3 days a week). i was just wondering would she be entitled to any redundancy if he goes bankrupt. any info would be greatly appreciated
 
She would be entitled to statutory redundancy for the 7 years she has worked for him. This would be capped at a maximum of €600 per week so if she has worked for him for 7 years then she would get 2 weeks per year plus 1 extra week.
 
thanks for the reply greenqueen,we discussed this last night and we thought if he declared himself bankrupt he would not have to pay redundancy,what can we do if he just takes off
 
If you log on to citizensinformation.ie and download their magazine
" Relate " for the Month of September 2008. this will give you all the information, you require, and will also give you usefull tips on who to contact, if there is a difficulty.
My own advice, for what it's worth is, to avail yourself of this information
immediately, so that you will be familiar with the correct procedures, in case the worst happens, and make sure that your employer knows that you know your rights.

just logged on that and i couldnt see anything so i rang them and they told me that if her employer is declared bankrupt a liquidator will be appointed to liquidate his remaining assests and my wife will then have to apply to him to be paid her statutory entitlement,if not enough money can be raised from his assets to pay redundancy she will be entitled to claim from the social insurance fund. once again thanks for your help
