Hi GUys,
My wife is being made redundant next Friday and she is also 4 months pregnant. There will be no redundancy payment as she is only there 1 year. She has 10 years continuous service in various employments My understanding is that unless she gets employment, she will not be entitled to maternity benefit as it is outside the 16 weeks.
· If she gets a job 2-4 weeks after being made redundant, does the break in service go against her for maternity benefit? Essentially, could she just work 1 day within the 16 weeks in order to qualify.
· Her family own a business, so we could potentially put her on the books there in order to keep up her PRSI payments. Is this a problem?
· I’ve been told Maternity Benefit is not taxable, so could I transfer her tax credits over to me for 2011?
Our current thinking is to
· finish work in her current place in 2 weeks
· go on the books of the family business for 5 weeks after that
· Move onto Jobseekers benefit for the next 15 weeks and see if anything comes of it.
· Then go onto Maternity Benefit for the 6 months.
I’ve tried to find out as much info as I can elsewhere, but would like to run my thinking past some of you guys.
Appreciate any comments.
