redundancy, how long until employer has to offer??

Sorry if this is already mentioned but i can't find it. My emplyer has told me that he has no work for me at the moment, this has been the case for the last 6 weeks. I have been employed here for the past 3 years. How long can my employer hold out until he has to offer me redundancy. I cannot just hang around waiting for work to start with him.

After 4 weeks unbroken, or 6 weeks broken lay off you can approach your employer seeking redundancy. Employers options are to counter this by offering 13 weeks un- broken work or else pay the redundancy.
