I was wondering if anyone would know how your allowances (basic exemption, superannuation etc.) are affected if you have been made redundant for the second time in the last 4 years?
About 4 years I was let go and I received statutory redundancy of about 2K and a non-gratia payment of about 1K. Seeing as this total (3K) was less than the 10,158 basic exemption threshold it was all tax free.
Now, I’ve just been made redundant again and I’m wondering how this previous tax free payment will affect my current redundancy package. I’ve looked up Revenues documentation on this and I’m not 100% sure I understand it.
If I had not been made redundant 4 years ago my current package would be 10,158 + 765 x 4 = 13218Euro, (plus any superannuation etc. which for now I’m ignoring). Is this now reduced by 3K ? or do I still get a ‘basic’ exemption amount of 10,158 irrespective of the number of times I’ve been made redundant.?
Thanks for your help
