redundancy and tax

Have a friend who got a voluntary redundency in June 2011. She had finished work in Dec 2010 and been on ub for 2011. Redundency payment did not come through until June and was 3 weeks plus the statutory. She paid whatever tax was due but thought that she would be entitled to tax back at the end of the year because she had not worked. Anyone know the situation, revenue are saying no.

Hard to tell really without the figures, was there much tax paid on the redundancy?

Quick question on redundancy.
If you apply to enter a voluntary redundancy scheme at your employer and you're not selected for whatever reason (the layoffs are not in your section, you're too expensive etc) can you be made compulsorily redundant at a later time?
