Redundancy and Pregnancy

Hi,
My wife was told her job is being made redundant at a specified date this year. We subsequently found out she's pregnant. The baby is due about 6 - 7 weeks before the redundancy date. Not a great time to be looking for work I'm sure you'd agree.

So I was just wondering, does anyone know if she would entitled to maternity leave:
1. From the state?
2. From the employer?

Regards

Maternity Benefit can be taken between 2-16 weeks BEFORE the baby is due. So your wife can claim/start maternity benefit before she loses her job. She must complete the form and return it to Donegal 6 weeks before she hopes to go on maternity leave. They have a dedicated phone line, 1890 690 690, and the staff are very helpful and will have no problem in going through everything with you. Just quote your PPS No. and they will confirm how much you will be entitled to.

Best of luck with the pregnancy.
