redundancy and maternity benefit

Hi,

Hope some1 can help with my query...Bascially Wife was made redundant 2 months ago, after 6+ plus years of full time employment..She is currently on Job seekers benefit....We have recently discovered she is pregnant....

My query is as it currently stands will she have any claim for maternity benefit next year? I believe it is calculated on the relevant tax year so she would have enough stamps, but might not be actually working when it falls due?

There is a possibility she may have some part time work in the new year, around 10 hours a week, how will this affect maternity claim?

As things stand she would not have an entitlement to Maternity Benefit as she would not be going directly from work to Maternity Benefit.
However if she got that part time job next year even for a short time she would be in a much better position
