Reducing to a three day week

If I wanted to reduce my 5 day week to a 3 day week in my PAYE job in order to have more time to focus on my small business and supplementary income, what benefits would I lose in terms of holidays, sick pay, pension and the like?

Some of it will depend on the terms & conditions of your contract of employment. In terms of your statutory rights check out DETE and for example for information about part time working.

If your employer allows you to do this, it will mean you still have pro-rata entitlement to holidays - i.e. 4 working weeks would be 12 days in the case of a three-day week.

As ClubMan says, the rest will depend on your terms of employment.

I reduced to 3 days a couple of yers ago (young kids, long commute, etc). Yes, everything is pro-rated i.e. 3/5 wages, etc. If you are paying into a pension, remember the contributions may be less , so you might want to do some avc's (if you can afford on the smaller income of course).
I often do a 4-day week now and what i've found is that I get almost the full entitlement of holidays - it is calculated on the number of hours worked in the last year or something like that.

Hi Boss, I am not sure what you mean by this but would be interested if you could explain it a bit more. I understood that you work a 3 day week generally but now often do a 4-day week but still get almost the full holiday entitlement???
