Seems strange - As a data controller, they have [broken link removed];When an operator answered she asked my permission to retain the data on her database under the Data Protection Act. I refused. And she refused to quote.
I guess it depends whether the 'purpose' under the Act is deemed to be the giving of the quotation, or their 'purpose' to use the quotation data to send you a competing quotation next year, and the next year etc."the data shall not be kept for longer than is necessary for that purpose or those purposes"
so I guess you could always agree to them keeping the data, get the quote, and then submit an instruction for them to delete your data.if the body keeping the information has no good reason to hold it (i.e. it is irrelevant or excessive for the purpose), or if the information has not been obtained fairly
One option is to purchase a classic car over 30 years old and you will definitely obtain both low insurance (due to low mileage) and low road tax.
