Redeployment

I wonder if I can get any help. Some colleagues of mine who work for Local Goverment have been told that due to a restructure they will be redeployed into similar roles that they were doing and the same hours, but with less salary. It was first thought that they would have a "fixed" salary for 1 year before their current salary goes down, however apparantly this protected 1 year only applies if your salary goes down 1 or 2 grades, and because they are going down 4 grades, their new salary of £10,000 less pa will be set immediately, and they cannot opt for redundancy as they are being offered a job albeit much less money than they were getting. Any help greatly appreciated.

Your post refers to payments in £ - this is a site based in the Republic of Ireland and there are differences in employment law and redundancy situations here compared to the UK. Not sure if there's a comparable website for there?

They should be protected by the croke park agreement. If it is salary then this cannot be reduced. If however they are losing overtime or shift allowance then they may get compensation later on they need to talk to their full time official.

Look at the OP - it uses £ in reference to currency. UK civil servants would not be governed by Irish agreements.
