I was wondering what would be the best product to use to varnish red deal floor boards. Want to leave them uncarpeted but want to protect them before they get marked and scuffed, any ideas?

There is a two-part offering from Rustins that I used a number of years ago and I swear by it. Comes in Matt or Gloss. Ugly stuff to use coz of the fumes, but you will never regret using it (if you survive the fumes). It's mad stuff, it will kill any brush you use, so dont use very expensive brushes (or very cheap ones as the hairs will show up). I gave the floors about 3/4 coats of the stuff.

Consider staining your boards first, e.g. one of the numerous pine stains.

thanks for that BlueSpud sounds quiet good. Might try and get a varnish roller instead of the brushes!

dont stain them under any circumstances. if you ever need to sand them down in the future they will be all patchy. red deal will turn a nice golden colour in no time if not immediately.
