Record Power-Router Table?

Does anyone out there own or have any experience with a Record power router table, model RPMS- R? It's not your average DIY tool spend but I know the AAM net is wide! I'm looking to purchase same but was hoping for some feedback from a user. I've looked at one on the shop floor in McQuillans, but it's difficult to analyse the machine set up there.

i've bought DeWalt tools online from www.lawson-his.co.uk - great price and quick delivery - i would get a demo of what you want and then search the web for the specific model you want to buy.

Not a user I'm afraid, but saw that one in McQuillans a little while back and it's on my wish list. Looks well specified for the price. It's around the €400 mark, right? D&M have it for stg£319 plus shipping, so €400 is pretty good.

It also looks more substantial than the [broken link removed] or options out there which cost considerably more.

Thanks all, appreciate the feedback. The Record table from McQuillans is €429, add a collet extension at €70 and another €50 delivery makes for a total of €549- not cheap but I've done the comparisons with UK based suppliers and it compares very favourably. Personally I'd be reluctant to purchase something heavy and bulky direct from a UK supplier, if for any reason I had to return the product the shipping costs would be prohibitive. I'll probably work on McQuillans and see if they'll round down the price a little!

Carpenter, presume you'll be using a 1/2" router, if so, Axminster have currently have [broken link removed] on special for under stg£20. Axminster delivery is usually quite reasonable.

Thanks Leo, I've added that site to my favourites. I'm sure I could bulk up an order with a few other bits and pieces to make it worthwhile, cheers!

Just to update on the table, I've ordered the table c/w collet extension from a local supplier for €500, all in and he says he'll throw in a pair of googles and some dust masks also. Will report back with review of it next week, when it's delivered- can't wait!

No review to offer this week. The table won't be delivered until next week unfortunately, however I don't know if I'll get around to using it straight, what with Carpenter Junior No. 2 due any day now!

Got the table a few weeks a go and finally got around to using it. On the plus side it is substantial, well thought out and put together. It's quite a professional piece of kit and armed with some decent cutters you could produce some quality work. Now for the niggles: I thought the dust extract arrangement was basic, but I improved on this with some white 40mm waste pipe, some fittings and duct tape. The sliding carriage is great but the hold down clamp and cross cut fence won't allow you to exert that much holding force. There was no fingerboard arrangement supplied to press the work in contact with the main fence, a big downside- given that most DIY tables would supply this as standard. I made up an effective finger board in MDF which will run in the slots of the main table to overcome this. The mounting arrangement for the router is fiddly but very secure, although I imagine my router is pretty much permanently fixed there forever now- as I don't think I'd be bothered to remove it! The NVR switch is great, gives you great sense of safety- although I notice that this has disabled the electronic brake on the router, although this is not a problem for table work. I don't have any 1/2" bits (yet), all mine are 1/4" so the table is really not being put to the test at the moment. I imagine that this table, teamed with a powerful router (like my Makita 1/2") and some good 1/2" bits could be a great little workhorse.I'd give the taqble a thumbs up but like any other type of machine there is some element of set up and fine tuning involved. I'll probably improve on the table in time with some of my own home-made jigs to allow me to set up and work more quickly. As a by the way the "record" collet extension I got with the table was in fact a "Trend".

( Strictly not to do with data routing ! )

I think they're one of the Trend agents in Ireland. It's a good Ind. Est, I think MaGinn Machinery are just around the corner, sell large woodworking equipment. Also Reliance Bearings for linear motion solutions and more, they're an engineering company.

Joe is correct.

Used them a couple of times a few years ago to get unusual cutters. They were happy to order in single units for me. Good service.

Got the Trend catalogue from the Routing Centre a year or two ago with their price list. I found it significantly cheaper to order online from the UK.

Just to update, I've ordered stuff from Trend directly too and found them competetive, even after exchange rate and shipping is factored in. However I was looking for an entry level biscuit joiner (Trend T20) and found I could buy it discounted from everyone but Trend. I'd have to heartily recommend the purchase of a biscuit joiner to any woodworker- what a fantastic invention, it's up there with the router!
