my wife and i and our 3 young kids are hoping to go on a sun holiday around the 20th of august. we are lookin for a family orientated resort, with a kids club. we are looking for recomendations from people
who thought that the holiday they had, was a holiday of a lifetime and would defininetly go back their again as their kids especially enjoyed it.
also, at the same time the economics come in to it, so we would be hoping to get it for the 5 of us for around 2,500 euro flights and accommodation included. maybe, you might be able to recommend a tour
operator are tell us the best way to go about it. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanking you

Re: recomendations for family orientated sun holidays

The 3 of us (2 adults, 1 child) went to Fuerte Ventura for 2 wks s/c at Serenada Bungalows with Budget Travel, for €950 and had a fantastic holiday. The kids club was great, beach was spitting distance away as was the town centre. There were trips to Lanzorote, catamaran trips, camel excursions etc. for an additional price, if you felt like exploring with a group. Car hire was cheap and easy to arrange. The reps were very helpful and accessible. The reception was manned by an Jane (who is English) and lives in Corralejo, she was very helpful with directions for a decent supermarket and what excusions were better value for money. My only negative about the holiday was that all areas including around the pool were concreted and get a bit slippy when wet, quite a concern if yr children are small. I would definitely go there again and 2 of my friends went there 12 months after me on my recommendation, and loved it. If you do decide to go take plenty of slap with you - Fuerte Ventura means windy island - and you can get burnt without noticing!

Re: recomendations for family orientated sun holidays

Been to fuerteventura 3 times, we always stay in the Hotel Barcelo Fuerteventura. Its a fantastic place, Ive been on stacks of package holidays but this one has been the best, the island is an amazing place to visit for scenery, watersports, plus the trip to lanzarote, their submarines, a great water park only just opened, the resort Caleta De Fusta has a lot to do but is quiet enough not to be annoying, the beach in front of the hotel is fantastic too. Plus go along the coast and you get to Flag beach, this beach is one of the most picturesque ive seen yet.

For kids, there is an entertainment club, and one for adults too, they try to get you into the water for water polo matches, the kids get to do stuff like tennis, archery, even shooting air rifles (supervised of course) there are shows every nite in the hotels theatre in which kids get to participate.

Like I said, its the best place ive visited yet as a package holiday destination and I love the island. The hotel is very sucure with key cards to open the gates down onto the beach, sauna, jacuzzi, gym, everything, dunno how much it will cost you but its through Panorama as far as i remember. Also look up www.fuerteventura.com and also the hotel review websites mostly speak highly of this hotel.

Hope this helps?!

Re: recomendations for family orientated sun holidays

I've been to fuerteventura yet not on a family holiday. I thought it was average. What you get there is only a fraction of what you can get on an irish holiday given the weather (much like today). Its very cheap over there which is good but I got so sickened with the guys begging you to eat in your restaurant every 10 feet (literally). I didnt think there was much to look at either. We went to Puerto del Rosario every day as its very handy for shopping and rented a car (a must) but other than the cheap beer, you'll think you are in england. I stayed in Corraleje (sp?). I won't be going back as I've seen all I need to see there. You can fit it all in in one week for sure.

You can ignore them you know? Having stayed in corralejo as well I have to say it isnt a patch on Caleta de fuste where the hotel barcelo is, Caleta de fuste is a little quieter, there are one or two guys asking you to eat in their place, but i mean this is everywhere, I saw it to a worse degree in lanzarote this yaer, just walk by and say no thanks, ive already eaten or something.

As for thinking your in England? Not so bad as thinking your in Dublin like me in Lanzarote this year, the Irish invasion far out weighed the english one. I shouldve gone to Fuerteventura again, but theres always my winter break to do that!

Re: recomendations for family orientated sun holidays

hahaha, well I didnt mean that I end up eating a three course meal every ten feet. It just spoils a nice walk down the street. Also, I have no issue with england or the english as I am part english myself. Its just that when I go away to a foreign country I like to experience the new culture. There just seems to be too much 'full english brekkies' and even the most popular radio station is english. Obviously its a well liked place as its very popular, just giving my view.

Re: recomendations for family orientated sun holidays

Appreciate that last point...

The fun of these places is actually looknig for the culture under the tarnish of the tourism trade.

There are stacks of english and irish pubs everywhere in the canary islands but if you get in a car and drive anywhere out of the resort for ten minutes you will come across little villages etc which are as far removed from the tacky europeanised resorts as humans are from sponges!!

It also depends on what you want, unfortunately I think a lot of the developed resorts the mediterranean over are like this.

Fuerteventura is just my favorite and caleta de fuste is the least developed ive been too (although there is a shopping centre with multi screen cinema, burger king and Mickey Dees only 15 minutes along the coast!!!)

However as regards entertaining the kids AND yourselves, the hotel Barcelo Fuerteventura is the spot for you if you choose Fuerteventura.
