Recommendations for Dvd and video recorder?

Hi, I am soooo thankful for this website, as I have had brilliant advice about other items e.g digital camera that I wanted to buy. I just want to ask what would be the best reasonably priced DVD and video combi recorder to buy. I have video tapes of my son that I want to transfer to DVD, and also I would like the thought of recording my fav soaps etc onto dvd when I am out, so there is no rewinding of tapes etc.

You can't just buy a "dvd player-video" combi - it will have to be a dvd recorder/video combi - personally I think if you already have a video player I would not buy a combi - just a dvd recorder and copy from the vcr to the dvd recorder.

I was in PC world today and I noticed they have a unit (€140) for copying VHS videos to DVD. I didn't look at it closely but it might be worth a look. It might be on their website.

I intend to buy a DVD recorder with harddrive myself and just copy from my old VCR as podgerodge has mentioned.
