Hello all
I am administering my mum's estate, she lived in Belfast but owned a half share of a flat in Dublin. Have been doing DIY probate in the North and so far I've managed without solicitors. However I understand that due the fact that none of the family are resident in Ireland and the asset is worth over a certain amount I will have to get a solicitor, even though there is not a penny of tax to pay.
I have basically done all the irish probate paperwork, and filed in the tax forms, it is more or less the same as in the UK. I now need a solicitor to simply lodge the probate application for me and then do the conveyancing once the flat sells, as we're planning to market it this summer.

Don't have any local knowledge and wondering if anyone can recommend a flexible solicitors film who are fairly priced.

Many thanks!

Anyone? Have emailed some solicitors explained the situation and been receiving ridiculously disproportionate quotes. Lodging a probate application without having to do any leg work is not worthy of 2000 euro. Am I missing something?

Unless its a 10 hour flight 2k would comfortable pay your travel cost and a hotel for the night and you can go to probate office yourself.

Personal application is very straightforward.

Also in my experience solicitor will check over everything you've done so they will bill for their time.

For the reasons set out above ( non-resident, asset over 20k) under Irish law, the OP has to appoint a solictor. The Probate Office won't accept the application otherwise.

And the reason for that is that the solicitor becomes secondarily liable for any unpaid taxes in ireland regarding the estate or the beneficiaries, so you can be absolutely sure that the solicitor will have to double check all the documentation and interact with all the government agencies to obtain clearances. It is nothing like just lodging the probate application.
