I recently handed in my notice due to health reasons. I don't have a job to go to and am unemployed now. I know that there is a 9 week delay in getting a payment if you quit your job. I was wondering if there is any leeway in this stance? I am sure i could get a letter off my doctor explaining that i was genuinely sick and that the job was the main cause of it.

I am actively looking for work and really dont want to be unemployed. My partner is self-employed and not guaranteed regular work and doesn't earn enough for us both to survive. I am probably not entitled to jsb and I dont have any real savings. What are the chances of me getting a payment?

I didn't think that the 9 week disqualification was a hard and fast rule but maybe these days they are more strict about it. If you left for medical reasons then just get documentary evidence to support your claim just in case. Or maybe just apply now and IF there is a problem with the disqualification being mentioned THEN get the stuff from the doctor etc. Good luck.

I'm gonna go in to the social welfare on Monday. Probably should have gone before now but i was hoping to get a job quick. Not too easy to do that these days.

You need a letter from your doctor stating that you had to leave your last job due to health reasons and will probably have to expand the reason you left for health reasons and also a letter from doc stating you are fit to work. And if you have documentary evidence of your attempts to seek work since you left your last position that would be a bonus.

It is up to the deciding officer whether you have to a disqualification period or not but be sure to put your case forward re the job affecting you etc.... best to have it written out and take a copy for yourself.
