we're living in France and are selling our home in Dublin. the sale is in the final stages and I'm expecting a cheque soon (happy days!). Could anyone tell me what options there are for receiving money from solicitors (our solicitor seems too busy to tell me  ). Must it be by Irish cheque or would a foreign money transfer be possible? Thanks,

I'm going to ask for that. Theoretically I may not have an Irish bank account anyway. thaks

If your are not tax resident in ireland in the current tax year the solicitor cannot remit funds out of the country without obtaining a tax clearance from the revenue, which involves paying all taxes in ireland. If you claim to be tax resident in ireland this tax year your solicitor, because he has a french address for you, will probably not remit the funds out of the country but will want Irish Bank details to lodge the money. Of course your solictor may not have a clue about the tax laws and do what ever you want with the money.
