I am a first time buyer who received the mortgage offer in writing in September, then went to contract exchange last week and the bank changed its policy at the end of October, did not write to me or solicitor to notify the change but has refused to lend (this issue is not due to bad credit score or overstretch.)
My Broker has made a complaint to the FSA and to the bank in question, meanwhile I have to still pay all conveyance costs and have paid out for surveys to be done to the property, oh and because of this I have now lost the house.
I know I have to wait 8 weeks for the complaints procedure in the bank and if this does not work go to the ombudsmen.
Does anyone know if there is anything else I can do?
Has this happened to other people? sensible people wait for mortgage offer then start conveyancing, if the bank can recoil so easily what hope have we got with out all the other challenges of house buying?
