Reading PDF files

Hi, have had computer problems and had to get my windows XP and office reloaded. Just getting back up and running and now find I can't read PDF files. Realise I need to download something but not sure what the program is called - is it adobe I need or is there another programme. Are there any free downloads? Thanks.

Right click on the pdf file....save target as.....save to desk top..... then it should open no problem from desk top. My adobe is a bit behind the times but this works for me.
