re-grouting shower floor

Shower floor is grouted with the same grey grout as the floor tiles in the en-suite - it looks very grubby as the wall tiles in the shower are grouted with white. My question is, can I just apply white grout over the top of the grey or do I need to remove the grey and then apply the white? If I need to remove grey grout, is there a product that anyone can recommend to do this? Thanx.

Removing grout is quite hard and involves using a small tool to grind it away bit by bit. I spent a week removing the white grout in a small toilet as it had gone very dirty. White floor grout doesn't stay white for long even if it is sealed.

You cannot put white grout on top of existing grout as it would just flake off.

Maybe use a grout cleaner and see what it looks like.

Thanx for the reply beldin - don't think a grout cleaner would work as the grout was grey to kick off with tho. I know you can get a tile adhesive remover, (for any overspill), suppose was just hoping that there was a similar product for grout - especially since the floor is tiled in those little square glass looking mozaic tiles! I'd be chipping away forever!!
