Rate band and tax credits for the year

Hi everyone,

I am not great with tax and any help is welcome. The revenue office informed me that I have utilised my rate band and tax credits.
Does this mean in general then that I pay more tax every pay? The reason I am asking is that out of the blue I pay 217 euro more tax on my payslip - bi weekly since last payslip 9th of August. Nothing really changed as such for me just out of the blue my tax went up! So I raised a ticket and they just simply replied:

"I can confirm that you have utilised your rate band and tax credits and that your pay and tax details are up to date"

Does not tell me much but I am guessing that with that it explains why I am now paying more tax is that right? thanks for any help and advice offerd
 
Did your circumstances and/or tax details change recently/this year?

You might need to post summary figures from your last "normal" payslip and most recent "reduced" payslip in order for others to offer advice.

Nothing changed at all. My pay has been the same for 2 years now. Beginning of 2023 I gave up the single parents tax allowance - nothing really changed - could this be it? But so long after ? 22 months? The other thing I noticed that where it says health insurance BIK it used to say 70 and now it states 485 as income and also as deduction line.
 
As I said, difficult to comment meaningfully without hard figures.
 
Did you get a response from your payroll on your other post about why your BIK increased from €70 to €485 per pay slip as that's likely why your tax has increased,
 
Did you check to see if there were any changes to your tax credit certificate for the active tax year? You can check this in your Revenue myaccount.

I will have another look at this thanks but did not think my wages would just drastically drop like that. In the meantime this came back to me from the payroll folks. Hard to really understand here why it is gone from 70 - 485 on BIK: Hello Miriam, Trust you're doing well. We want to let you know that LAYA BIK has Annual Enrolment in December month. However, LAYA team has shared revised Total Group gross values (including Dental policy) in June-2024. However we were in discussion with LAYA team to re-confirm revised input file and we have received the confirmation on revised input. The revised LAYA BIK input ("Total Annual Group Gross") in P16-2024(Pay date: 9th Aug,2024) for the remaining 9 pay periods until P24-2024(Pay date:29th Nov,2024). Due to this, there is a increase in your LAYA BIK and tax in your latest payslip Regards, Global Payroll Services.
 
Again ... difficult for anyone to comment meaningfully without specific figures from the before and after payslips. But the explanation doesn't make a lot of sense to me (and the English used seems very odd - maybe not the person's first language?). I don't understand why the employer wouldn't know the correct BIK figures for health insurance up front and simply apply them via payroll on a "smooth" pro rata basis. They don't seem very good at communication on the issue to be honest.
 
Well if your taxable pay went up by 415 then if you're on the higher tax band you will pay about 210 more tax. So now at least you know the source of your tax increase.
It appears your you were paying 180 a month originally but there's a shortfall of 9 x 415 which suggests your annual health insurance is about 5k ? You need to check this with HR as it seems very high but it could be that it's owed from a previous year. Find out what plan you are on and how much a year it is.
Edit: I'm assuming you are paid bi-monthly or fortnightly.
