Raising hot water tank?

Hi all,

Getting bathroom done at last, but need to know if it's possible to place the hot water immersion tank in the attic, for pressure reasons, without major problems and cost. It's a bungalow and I'm getting rid of bath and just putting a shower in. Also is there a fast way of heating tank as we only use hot water for showers. We have an electric at the mo.

Am also thinking of getting much of the fittings in GB or Northern Ireland. Any recommendations of online or real stores. Very limited stock in IKEA but may pick up a mixer from them.

Thanks.

Your hot water tank (immersion heater) is gravity fed by the cold-water tank in the attic, so hot water tank must be lower.

Plus do you really want all that lovely heat dissipating in your attic space?

In any case if its possible to place your immersion in the attic from a plumbing perspective, you are looking at having the significant additional weight up there. You would also be looking at much longer runs and heat losses from your hot-water pipes.

no problem putting cylinder in attic, Although you may have to extend lenght of expansion pipe to avoid premature "pitching", this may happen if the expansion pipe is too short. as mathepac pointed out it has to be lower then the storage tank. weight shouldn't be an issue. be sure the cylinder is supported throughout it's base.
