Rafters banging?

Hi,

The area above the living room in our house creaks and bangs a lot as the house cools down at night. The house is 5 years old. It definitelty sounds like wood 'contracting' or something, but I don't know if it is the joists or the laminate flooring upstairs.

Also, the radiator in our hallway always lets out a loud bang when it is cooling down, especially at night.

Sounds like its the pipes making the noise. Heard of this before, the copper pipes expand and contract and can grate against adjoining materials. Caused by lack of pipe insulation or pipes notched too tight into joists. If you can put up with the noise, I dont think you need to worry about it
