Radon Barrier/DPC

Is it sufficient to lay a Radon barrier without putting in a damp proof cover or will both be needed in laying foundations. Thinking of getting radon barrier installed by a professional but very few listed in golden pages. Anyone know of a qualified person in Donegal who lays Radon barrier.

Does anyone know how a radon barrier should be vented and how many vents should be visible? I've checked the RPII website but to no avail.

I'd imagine that any statutory requirements would be laid out in the http://www.environ.ie/DOEI/DOEIPol.nsf/wvNavView/wwdConstruction?OpenDocument&Lang=en (DoE's building standards/regulations). One sump is considered adequate for an area of up to 200 sq. m. in a standard dwelling of conventional design and construction. This sump should be vented with two pipes, diametrically opposed, terminated at the buildings perimeter, capped and clearly marked to enable identification. Homebond's Home Builder's Manual gives good, clear advice on this and all other aspects of house construction and as a professional working in the industry I would recommend it as essential reading for anyone building in Ireland today.

According to my builder, Homebond have told them there is no requirement to install a radon barrier in low-radon areas but they have done it anyway voluntarily. The house is built but there are no sign of any vents so on asking the builder about this there is going to be one vent (which is currently buried) coming up in the garden with a cap on the end. I thought the pipe should be vented to allow any gas to escape but not according to the builder although he is prepared to drill holes in the cap. Is this information correct?
