Radio for FM signal/BBC

Hi everyone
I remember a thread about improving your FM signal before but I can't find it now for love nor money. Basically, my FM signal is bad downstairs and fine upstairs and someone recommended an aerial thing which I haven't gotten around to getting yet. However, now I see that Lidl (ya gotta love em) have a [broken link removed] for sale next week and I'm wondering if this will not only solve my FM reception problem but will let me listen to BBC. Does anyone know what my chances are?
Thanks
Rebecca

Not so good I would think.

The digital thing is slightly misleading, as it looks to me as if the only digital thing about it is the display.

So it's not one of these as far as I can see.

Reception should be no better than any other FM radio. I've also found that many of the cheap, unknown brand, radios have pretty poor reception - except on strong local stations.

Beeb on FM

Depends where abouts you are located as to what the signal strength is. An aerial is sure to help if put in right.

Think that the Beeb also broadcast all their radio stations via satellite so you could try to pick them up that way & then transmit then around your house with a little local transmitter

The only time that I can get Beeb on FM is in the car ( which has a proper aerial - not one of those little beesting yokes )

You might find that if you have an NTL subscripition, there should be a radio conncection by the TV box. With any luck you can then enjoy BBC radio on FM including 5live and the World Service.

Radio 2

I would love to be able to buy a cheap radio that will take the connection from NTL into the back of the radio so I can listen to BBC Radio 2 on FM. Is there a cheaper option than world space radios that eurodilbert pointed to ?

Radio 2

Many mini/midi hi-fi systems under the €100 mark (significantly in some cases) on sale take a co-ax input which should work OK. Even a cheap radio with a better than normal FM aerial should work. That WorldSpace system looks sort of advanced/specialised in my view and certainly overkill if all you want is BBC2 for example.

Re: Radio 2

Thanks everyone. I don't have Sky or NTL unfortunately. Hopefully Lidl will come up with cheaper aerial for me sometime.

Re: Radio 2

All NTL: radio channels can be recevied on any radio set with an external antenna simply by inserting an loose wire into the NTL: radio socket (centre, female connector) and wrapping the wire around the external antenna on the radio.

I'm back with my FM aerial problem again guys.

During the house move, the little wire that passed for an FM aerial on my little Hi-Fi has gone walkies. I tried to buy a replacement and couldn't find one mentioned in Argos catalogue or B&Q. The local sparks shop where I bought it didn't ring me back. So I looked at the connector and it's a male connection (I think) but all the TV aerials I could find are the opposite kind of connection. I found an "F connection convertor" or something, and tried to fit that so I could use a telly aerial but that didn't fit.

Is there any way I can get an FM signal back on my stereo ? Bring back the old telescopic stick aerial, FM radio is so hard to get without it. I have this type of aerial on the radio in the kitchen without any problems.

A length of wire should suffice (e.g. clothes hanger) provided you can fasten it securely on the radio. Should be enough to get your local FM stations.

Just to let you know TarfHead that I am now reunited with my radio. Thanks for your help (even if I feel like a dummy for not figuring it out myself! ).
