Some time ago I emptied my Rabo a/c but left it there and for a while I was still able to log into it. Can't do that now.....sooo is my a/c now closed. I ask because I might go back to them and see they are offering €30 if you open a new account.

Doubtful - it may have just been deactivated for security reasons due to a lack of activity. I'd call them and find out. I'd be very surprised if they were just closing the accounts themselves

You need to ask yourself is it worth a low interest rate for a small upfront payment of 30 EUR or is it worth opening an account that pays a better return.

The 30 EUR payment is largely a gimmick to get you in the door, unless your deposit is quite small, you are financially better off elsewhere.

One side note is that it could still be very handy to do very large EFTs (over the internet) if required depending on who your current account is with e.g. AIB have a limit of 10K don't they and BOI 20k?

This is because you can set the max transfer yourself with Rabo and I vaguely recall this having an extremely high setting if so desired (might be handy for opening fixed term deposit accs with other institutions).

I have 12k from Halifax Flexi Saver but would like to keep it in an non irish account as all ready have Savings Bond and EBS term a/c and dont like all my eggs in one (Irish) basket.

As you know the UK banks have very low interest rates at present but its more the security end of things I'm thinking of. AAA rating for Rabo.
Could also put it in Northern Rock, 2.5% I think but Rabo would be more secure.

Nationwide UK are AA rated and offer 3.30%.

Nothern Rock's parent is the AAA rated UK Government.

Re MysticX's post on using the Rabo moneymover to transfer large EFTs. I tried this to transfer money to my Nationwide UK account. When the money didn't transfer after two days I rang Rabo - they said it had to go into a holding account with BOI and they asked me did I not need a reference on the transaction. As far as I am aware my Nationwide UK account has a personal account number i.e doesn't go into a holding account like NR.

Anyone have any experience of this?? I've made transfers from both AIB & BOI without any delay.

Thanks,
Jacobean

I got a better explanation off Rabo today - I think!

I transferred the money in from AIB and while it appeared to be in my account it hadn't actually cleared, therefore when I made the request to move it out to Nationwide the system couldn't do it straightaway.
