R&D tax relief on side hustle

Hi all

I am in a full time cooperate job and currently assessed as PAYE. I am exploring to partner with a university for a conducting a research project where I fund partially and rest will be raised from different funding sources by university. Firstly I need to get permission from my organization which I am doing at the moment. However, it's not clear to me if there are any tax implications. Is there any R&D tax relief on the funding I provide to the university ? Do I need to set up myself as sole trader or Ltd. company for this side hustle ?

If you have to ask the question here, I would count it vanishingly unlikely that your venture would qualify for R&D Tax Credit. It's very much a big boys' game.
