We got a quote for building an entrance wall and pillars recently and wondered what people thought?

The wall is block build with a natural stone (stone provided by us) on outside only. It is 8 metres long on one side of entrance and 10 metres long on other, 4ft high with pillars 5ft high. We were quoted €2250. Does anyne know if this is competitive? Any thoughts welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds very expensive to me. Shop around.
Get about 10 quotes these days.
After each one gives their first quote tell them about the cheapest quote you got. Make it clear that you still have many quotes to get. Tell them to beat it or leave it as you'll be getting more quotes anyway and not calling them back if they arent the lowest.

I assume this is a block and brick build for the wall with a facia of natural stone with you providing all the materials. If the natural stonework is random type then the costs can be significant alsthough your price seems excessive, especially in these times.
That said the best option as advised is usually get as many quotes as possible. Sometimes however cheapest is not always best, I usually go for the middle ground from long established craftsmen.

i would totally disagree with minion...dont go and get ten quotes, dont waste your time..there are a million guys out there now doing every job you can think of,and havent a clue what there doing.in an economy like this people will try anything when they dont know what there doing and bluff it...,ask your friends or neighbours or anyone you trust who works in the construction trade for recomendations, and only get these or a repuatable firm to do your job ,its going to be an expensive job anyway and for the sake of a few hundred quid get it done properly, cause it will save you money in the long run..
