Quick fix to cover water damage on wall

Hi there

We have a leaking roof, we've been in the house 5 years and it was bad enough when we moved in but seems to have dried out in the past couple of years and is not leaking lately - not sure why to be honest.
Anyway to cut to the chase, I need to create some sort of quick fix to cover the damaged internal wall - where the roof has leaked in there is a little bit of crumbling plaster and bubbles and water stains. I read about a drywall screen on an American site but from checking the Woodies/ B&Q sites there doesn't seem to be a similar product here.
I am looking for a large piece of adhesive of some sort that I can stick over the damaged panel and paint. As the leak seems to have stopped I imagine this will hold for a few months anyway which is all I need until I can get the actual cause fixed. I don't want to pay for a plasterer. I don't think filler will work as there is a hole - maybe it would be I am not very confident in my plastering skills! Would I need tools as well to smooth it out?

Has anyone any ideas?

I stripped wall paper recently.. and some of the plaster came away in large holes, the size of dinner plates and about 5mm to 8mm deep... I used a product called SmartMix and it worked really well,... very easy to apply and sand smooth, and the newly painted wall looks very well .

A big bucket cost 30 Euro or so.

no problem. There are other fillers available, from your paint shop. The one I bought was a big bucket, .. it's quite cheap, but may shrink slightly.. this may not matter if you can overspread it and sand it back.. fill deep holes in several applications, leaving it for a day before going again with more filler. You can get better fillers which don't shrink, but they're sold in smaller tins for a similar price.

Zinsser BIN is a primer, it's quite expensive but is very good at covering stains.. you might not need it, it's hard to say without seeing the damage..



These fillers aren't as good as getting the wall replastered, but they're a good cheaper alternative.



You shouldn't ignore the leaking roof... you should look into getting it fixed, it may only be a broken tile or something, but it's unlikely it'll fix itself, maybe the water is going somewhere now where it's doing more damage!!!

+1 for Zinsser. Ideal for such a job. Great as a mould resistant paint for bathroom ceilings too
