I’m getting my affairs in order tax wise and I fully intend to sort things out.
However, I’m curious about what revenue actually care about.
I mean if it was a couple of hundred euro from a couple of years ago surely they’d have much bigger fish to fry?
I’ve been told that revenue do tax audits of people, how does this work they just call the bank get your details and go through it?
People might advise…going through things with accountant and he wants to know EVERYTHING..
For the record, have no problem paying my tax before I get slated by posters, but curious as to what Revenue actually care about.
Just an average worker really.
Also, if I want to get my p60 adjusted to reflect the fact I've got declared extra income what should I do?
Can this be done?
Thanks!

Revenue care about collecting what is fairly due, no more and no less.

If you have extra income then that should be declared. Depending on the materiality of the income that may be possible to do via your PAYE return (Form 12), but it may be necessary to file the more comprehensive self-assessment tax return (Form 11)

If you feel unsure about filing this yourself then you should contact an accountant or tax advisor to assist. And why should they not want to know everything if they are to file a correct return for you.

PS you might edit the title of your thread to make it less vague.

They would collect this in a future year by means of either deducting from any further claims or adjusting tax credits in a particular year. Dangerous to think revenue have bigger fish to fry, you have to throw a sprat to catch a salmon.
Regarding audits they can be triggered randomly or if they feel you have not made a full and frank return, say you forgot to pay a few hundred quid a few years ago, if you know what I mean.
When you want to get your affairs regarding a particular year in order you write to your local office and fill in the relevant form for declaration - In general this is a from 11 or 12. They will send out an updated form which I think is a p21 which overrides you p60.
Revenue will generally look favorably on anyone who comes forward to make a declaration but there's no guarantee. Either way you should sort it out sooner rather than later.
I dont get the accountant question unless you want to hide something.
