Hiya,

I applied last April / May (07) for child benefit after returning from living in the UK and still havent received anything.

I have called them a few times and been told as its past of the EU section it could be months yet!

Anyone else have this problem and should I keep chasing them? will it make it come any quicker? Its nearly a year now.

Thanks

Is your child is living with you here in Ireland. If so and you are the mother of the child it has nothing to do with the EU section of Child Benfit. If on the other hand you are the father of the child and mother and child are still in the UK then it is the EU section you will be dealing with. They are at the moment working on claims made in Jan 2006

Irish Child Benefit (which is the one you should be dealing with if mother and child are in Ireland) also have a large backlog. I think it can be up to a year

I have been told it has to do with the EU section and the times I called I was redirected to that section.
It is because I was living and working in the UK until 12months ago and they said they will have to get in contact with the child benefit section in the UK to make sure I wasnt still claiming in the UK.
But 12 months+ is a ridiculous amount of time to be waiting for it, isnt it?

There are huge backlogs in CB. They are now refusing to deal with personal callers to the office in Letterkenny. Even if you go to SW local offices, the satff there can do little to help. They can't get through to the office by phone and, if they do get through, are only told "We're dealing with the backlog chronologically and will get to that claim in due course."

ah ok, well thanks for the posts anyway.

I suppose its a form of savings as I never had it to begin with so cant miss it, Will be nice when I finally get it anyway. :)
