Question - re foreign based landlord?

Hi

I think there was once a thread on this, but cant remember where to find it....?

I have agreed a new lease but nothing actually signed yet, just emails back and forth

Landlord says he is in New Zealand.....dont know yet if thta is a long term thing or not?

Is there some matter of having to withold some sort of witholding tax if he is genuinely resident abroad? The responsibility is on the tenant? Is there some we I can avoid that legally, eg if I have his pps number?

any advice appreciated before I actually hand over a deposit/sign anything....

This should set alarm bells ringing,there is a slim possibility this may be a scam,so do not jump in feet first until you are 100% sure this guy is legit.
