Hello,

I'm in a bit of a conundrum in relation to a job offer I'm currently pondering over, and I'd appreciate any help.

Both myself and my wife are currently unemployed ( She's on JB, about to go on JA, while I'm on JB).We have 2 children and we get a combined total of approx 400 euro per week.
I have just been offered a job, which will provide me with 424 euro (net) a week.

My question is this:
If I take this job, will my wife then lose all the 188 euro she currently receives?

If this is so, it would mean that I would be working for 24 euro extra , but with the added expense of about 50 euro petrol, thus leaving me with a net loss of about 25 euro a week for taking a job.

Alternatively, due to the low pay for this job, would my wife be allowed a certain amount under JA.

Thanks,

While she's on JB, she will continue to be paid €188 pw.

When she goes on JA, she will be means-tested based on your income.

Details of the means test can be found here:
http://www.citizensinformation.ie/e...e_payments/work_and_jobseekers_allowance.html

As a rough guide-
Calculate your assessable earnings: Gross less PRSI, Superannuation, Union Dues.
Deduct 20 euro for each day of work, up to a maximum of 3 days.
Calcuate 60% of the remainder - this is your weekly means from work.

You may be entitled to Family Income Supplement if you work 19 hrs per week or more, even if your wife is entitled to a small amount of JA.
