hi folks happy new year, question about statue of limitations and a phone bill..

a friend about 15 years ago had a mobile phone contract, when he was young and silly, and ran up a huge bill of £1000 ir punt at the time.

he paid an amount, and then panicked, as he could not handle the stress, and sent a letter to the company not to contact him again at his address as he was moving abroad..

after that he had never heard anything from the company , and they were taken over some years ago. its now 15 years on and nothing more was ever heard about it, no post ever arrived at the address.

does the statute of limations apply in this instance?

he subsequently recently took out a phone contract with the company, but when ordering, entered a different DOB, and all current bills are up to date, no problems ..

i would be interested in hearing peoples opinions on advice, and statute of limitations on the old bill.... is it written off at this stage?

what should he do.. i am not sure what to advise him,

If he hasn't acknowledged the debt in the last 6 years then, yes it is statute barred. This means the phone company are not legally entitled to pursue your friend for this debt.
