Hi,
I received a voucher as a Christmas present last year but will only have a chance to use it next week, I checked it and it was only valid for six months. Can anyone tell me if this is correct? I mistakenly asumed it would be valid as long as the shop is stil in operation, given that the money has already been paid, plus inflation etc. wouldn't affect it?

Hi Bee,

Unfortunately you have little or no rights when it comes to expired gift vouchers.

Im moving this to the consumers section where the topic has been dealt with in the past. here

It might still be worthing calling in, or giving them a call, to see if they might still honour the voucher. Won't do you any harm, and you might get lucky.

They'd be doing you a favour though, as they don't have to honour them.

Agree with Rohan D john. Few weeks ago found a vouncher i had lost at Christmas (6 month exp) and the shop were quite ok honouring it. Certainly worth a try.

i'd chance my arm in the shop, i used a generic voucher past its date a few months ago in roches and even though the shop assistant looked at it she still accepted it, i was given roches vouchers in change from the item which don't have any sell-by dates on them. having these dates is a money making racket for the voucher companies so i wouldn't feel any compunction about trying to use them.

 Please explain! Surely they are a t&c of using the voucher rather than a "racket"?

so i wouldn't feel any compunction about trying to use them.

What do/would you do if you in a shop who legitimately enforce their t's&c's and don't let you use the out of date voucher? Is losing your money worth the risk of taking that chance?

Nobody is suggesting that anyone should feel any 'guilt' about trying to use out-of-date vouchers.

Many thanks for all the replies, I rang the shop this morning and asked them 'nicely' could I use it and they said no problem.

Funnily enough I've been thinking about this since and I've had a few travel vouchers over the years which have expired and it never cast me a thought, not sure why I would have though a clothes shop voucher would be different!

I make a point of only buying gift vouchers with no expiry dates.

World of Wonder toy stores issue gift vouchers with no expiry dates.
