I have purchased a 2nd hand car in the UK which was registered in January 2008 and am trying to work out whether the old system of engine size or the new system of CO2 emissions apply to this car.
Based on the link below, it seems that whichever is more beneficial is the one that applies:

Relevant section on which I have based this assumption is:
"A private car first registered abroad between 1 January 2008 and 30 June 2008 inclusive and subsequently registered in Ireland will be taxed on whichever is the lesser of the motor tax rates based on engine size (c.c.) or CO2 emissions"
The car I purchased is 1910cc which would be €614 whereas the CO2 emissions are 149g/km which would be €302 approx.
Does anyone know if I am correct re the above.
