I know of an employee aged over 66 who is paying Class A PRSI whereas an over 66 person should be on Class J, ie not required to pay PRSI. The employer has just forgotten about the person's age and is paying excessive ER PRSI too.

Person is working 45 years plus and receives the Contributory Old Age Pension which is based on these contributions. Does the employee lose out on anything by changing to Class J? Am I missing anything?

What if employee becomes ill, Class J has no Illness Benefit, does the person's historical PRSI contributions cover this?

Illness Benefit isn't payable to a person aged 66 or over, so, even if they are paying class A contributions, they would receive nothing if they applied for it.
