Hi,

This may sound like a basic question but i would just like to confirm whether an apartment needs to be examined by a quantity surveyor when its being purchased? If so, (as i am pretty sure this is required), is a flat fee charged or does it vary with property size, type, location etc....

Thanks,
WB

You don't need to get anyone to examine it before purchasing. Caveat emptor.
I got an architect to do just a snag list for mine. It was new and had 10-year
homebond against major structural defects.

I think you'd want a structural engineer rather than a quantity surveyor to
confirm the building is sound.

Hi WB

A quantity surveyor is someone who calculates how much of each material is needed for a construction project (and a whole lot more).

What you need for a second hand home is as GZ suggested a structural engineer / building surveyor / architect. Who has professional indemity inurance.

Your QS while an experienced person in construction generally wouldnt have the insurance.

Best of luck with the new home!

Cheers
