I'm putting in railway sleepers to build a flower bed. They're in a triangular shape but I'm wondering how do I secure them into the ground.Do you just dig/clear 2-3 inches and place them? What happens in winter when the ground freezes and expands...will it push them out...any advice/ experience appreciated!!

just dig out a small shallow trench. If you are worried about frost etc, place a shallow bed of pea gravel or the like under them. They will be still around long after we are gone.

I have pretty much waht you are talking about in my garden for the past two years. Just dug out a very shallow trench but my only consideration was that they wouldn't blow over in the wind, weight alone sorted that out:eek: . Never thought of frost, not that we have had much with the global warming and so on.
