Putting Compost On The Lawn

We've a build up of compost over the last 2 or 3 years in a compost container out the back. Can I spread this over the lawn & will it make any difference? It's not the worst lawn in the world but is a bit patchy and mossy. I tried lawn feed last year & also reseeded a section but it could still do with something extra.

I usually combine the lawn feed with compost and it works a treat. But make sure you rake it in...

The compost is pretty mucky looking. Will it actually spread out with a rake? I'm picturing it sticking tight to the rake & going nowhere.

You really need your compost to have broken down into fine crumbs before you can spread it out over your lawn. If it's a sticky, lumpy mess, you're probably better off digging it into the beds.

Reckon it'll be 2017 before that stuff turns into fine crumbs I'll fill it into the beds instead.

Leave it out in the air to dry for a while and it should be crumbly once it dries out.
