Put new lagging jacket over old one?

Hi there,

I bought a new lagging jacket for my parents copper boiler in their hotpress. The Question I have is whether there is any benefit in putting it around the original lagging jacket that is already there or should I just take that off first?

2 better than one but it may be better to put the new one on first and then the old.

I've just finished putting on the new jacket over the old one (which turned out to be a bit difficult and dirty underneath when i tried to remove it so I left it) so will wait a while & see how that works out.
