Hi,

Wondering if anyone can give me some advice. Looking into purchasing in Slovakia and will need a Solicitor. Should I look into getting a solicitor here in Ireland and get the contracts translated or should I hire a solicitor in Slovakia, facing the problems of language difficulties and trustworthiness? Probably looking for the most economical way but also need someone we can trust.

It almost always makes more sense to hire a local (Slovakian) lawyer in an overseas property purchase. There will be local nuances in Slovakian property law, so just getting the documents translated isn't really enough.

DO NOT USE LOCAL LAWYER.
Use local and ONLY local companys and lawyers. Irish lawyers have no idea about slovakian law, same as lets say Russian lawyer wont have any idea about Irish..

And it may lot cheaper to hire GOOD local lawyer. + dont forget translating costs lot as well. I think translating is charged on a word count... SO if theres lot of translating youll pay lot.and i mean LOT..

Local companys solicitors included may assist you with interpreters, many realestate companys and solicitors have their own or can hire one.

Anyways it shouldnt be a problem.

Would like to give you some good advice, but unfortunately have no contacts in slovakia, only thing i can say is that be carefull, whta and where you buy. And what is in your contract...

I used the following for a sale. No problems, good English and no visits required to Bratislava. They were recommended at the time by the estate agents that I used. They apparently have a lot of English clients.
