Public transport and other tips for Murcia.

I'm thinking of going to Murcia in October. Can anyone give me ideas as to what the public transport is like. I'd like to visit Cartagena and a few of the other towns in the area.

Any tips in general about this region re hotels, weather etc would be very welcome
