Public service probationary period - leave entitlements

Hi,
My other half started job in public service in January - they are on a years probationary period. Are they entitled to annual leave and when? A sibling is terminally ill - they want to go visit them but they are in another continent and would need at least a week off. Are they entitled to any leave?

They are still entitled to the same annual leave as if they were permanent ( I think it's a minimum of 1 and a half days per month worked but could be wrong).
