Public Apologies

There seems to have been a spate of public apologies recently. I have in mind the one from the Church, then the News of the World and just now i see BBC apologised for remarks made by one of their commentators during the golf at the weekend. I wonder why?

Its simple really.

Priests raped children. The church covered it up. They apologised.
The News of the World hacked phones voicemails. They apologised.
Some BBC commentator wondered aloud if people in Northern Ireland would stop killing each other. Outrage followed. He apologised.

Of the 3 I would say the 3rd apology wasnt required.

Which is ironic really as it was probably the most genuine of the three.
