PTSB: Online instant access problem?

It seems that you cannot have a joint account with PTSB for the 2% online instant access deposit option - does anyone know why? Having checked the best options here on AAM I've completed the entire application process and shifted funds to PTSB (joint demand account) only to discover this at the last moment :(
 
Strange. Most instant access products can be opened as a joint account.

I have sent a query to PTSB on this. If PTSB confirm that this product cannot be opened as a joint account, I will add a note to the best buys.
 
Thanks for your reply. I'd negotiated everything by phone initially, filled in the application forms (complete with the myriad number of proofs required of a couple) and thought all was well but finally got the same response :( They claim they misunderstood my needs but I lodged our savings to a joint demand account (on their advice) as a precursor to getting the online access account I asked for - so why would I have wanted to hive all that money into my own single account afterwards? I could have opened a single deposit account in the first place if that's what I'd wanted. Not impressed with PTSB customer support.

Now I have to decide whether to a) split the money I've already lodged with them into separate online access accounts, b) open a joint booster bonus account or go elsewhere. Not really liking any of those choices. Does anyone know if getting access to one's other half's money (lodged in their own account) in the event of a death is a big hassle or incurs added expense/delay? This was one reason we wanted our savings in a joint account to spare each other the added headaches.

Well, this is interesting. I have been just informed by PTSB that NONE of their online savings accounts can be in joint names! If we want a joint account, we have to open one in a branch or by post, severely restricting our options. The nearest branch is 17 miles away. I think we might as well go for prize bonds now ... :(
